Convenient Access from Newton
From Newton Centre, SOAP Dental is about 19 minutes west by car, and riders on the Framingham/Worcester Line can step off at Natick Center just around the corner from our door. That flexibility is why a dentist Newton, MA commuters and students can reach either way makes sense, even with plenty of offices closer to Boston. Dr. Bob Cheng runs a general practice in Natick for children, teens and adults, with care that covers everything from cleanings to root canals.
Starting at the Newton Free Library on Homer Street, head south on Walnut Street, then take Lincoln Street and Hartford Street to Boylston Street (Route 9) westbound. Stay on Route 9 into Wellesley, switch to Washington Street (Route 16) through Wellesley Hills and Wellesley, and continue onto Central Street (Route 135) into Natick. At Main Street (Route 27), turn toward Middlesex Ave to reach 7A Middlesex Ave, Natick, MA 01760, a short walk from Natick Common. The trip is roughly 9.5 miles with no tolls; our Google Maps profile has live directions, and patients nearer Needham or Wellesley Hills can find their own pages too.
Why the Worcester Line Makes Natick an Easy Trip
Newton is a city of 13 villages, and three of them sit right on the commuter rail. Auburndale, West Newton and Newtonville all have stations on the Framingham/Worcester Line, the same line that stops at Natick Center. The Natick Center platform is about a tenth of a mile from our office, so a train rider can be in the chair without ever touching a car key.
Both communities sit in Middlesex County, and the same rail line links them today. That matters for people who live without a car, and for anyone who would rather read on a train than sit in traffic on Route 9. Patients heading home toward Boston can catch an inbound train after their visit. Those who drive have an equally simple choice, since Route 9 and Route 16 avoid the tolls on the Mass Pike.
Natick Center itself is easy to navigate on foot. The paved Cochituate Rail Trail starts in the town center and runs north along Lake Cochituate toward Saxonville, so a midday appointment can end with a walk before the ride back. Natick Common and the Morse Institute Library are also a few minutes away.
Our weekday hours run 8:00AM to 5:00PM, Monday through Friday, and Saturday mornings from 8:00AM to 1:00PM are available by appointment only. A Saturday slot is often the easiest answer for professionals who work a full week in the city. The office is closed on Sunday.
What Newton Commuters and Students Should Know About Their Dental Care
Busy schedules are hard on teeth. Skipped cleanings turn small problems into bigger ones, and stress shows up as clenching, grinding and cracked fillings. Coffee and long days at a desk add stains and dry mouth to the mix, and none of it hurts until it does.
A steady recall schedule is the best protection against all of that. Twice-yearly visits let Dr. Cheng compare digital x-rays from one year to the next, and those images appear on screen immediately with reduced radiation. Changes in a filling, a crown margin or the bone around a tooth stand out early, when treatment is smaller.
Gum health deserves the same attention. Bleeding when you brush or floss, puffy gums or teeth that seem to be shifting can signal gum disease, which often progresses without pain. Dr. Cheng screens for it at every checkup, and scaling and root planing can treat early stages before they threaten the bone.
College students have their own pattern. Students at Boston College in Chestnut Hill and at Lasell University in Auburndale who live away from home often let dental care slide during the semester. A local office near the rail line lets them keep up with checkups, or handle a toothache, without waiting for a break at home.
Newton is marathon country, with Heartbreak Hill on the Boston Marathon route and the Charles River along its northern and western edges. Weekend runs, rides and pickup games all carry a small risk of a chipped tooth. Bonding repairs a minor chip, while a more serious injury calls for an emergency visit.
A Dentist Newton, MA Patients Can Reach by Car or Train
Emergency Treatment
Severe tooth pain, a broken tooth or a gum emergency rarely waits for a convenient day. We reserve time for emergency visits whenever possible and treat traumatic dental injuries promptly.
General Dentistry
Routine checkups, cleanings and oral cancer screenings form the backbone of care. Custom nightguards help professionals who grind at night, and sports mouthguards protect younger athletes in the family.
Root Canal Therapy
When decay or a crack reaches the nerve, gentle root canal treatment removes the infection and saves the natural tooth. Dr. Cheng explains why a crown usually follows, so you understand the full plan from the start.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Bonding, clear aligners and smile makeovers address chips, gaps and stains. Custom porcelain veneers improve the color, shape and alignment of front teeth for anyone who presents to clients every day.
Orthodontics
Traditional braces, clear braces, Invisalignยฎ and retainers are all part of our orthodontic care for children, teens and adults. A family can handle a teen's braces and a parent's aligners at the same office.
Meet Your Natick Dentist
Dr. Bob Cheng has trained extensively through the Dawson Academy, Spear Education and Molis Coaching, on top of numerous continuing education courses. His style is collaborative: he listens to your concerns, explains what he finds and guides you through the options before anything begins.
Insurance & Financing
Starting a new job often means new dental benefits, and our office accepts a wide range of insurance plans. We aim to estimate your costs before the visit, so the bill holds no surprises. Payment is otherwise due at the time of service unless arranged in advance, and CareCredit can spread larger treatment over time.

LOOK NO FURTHER & book an appointment! I have neglected my teeth for too long but feel absolutely refreshed and hopeful after my visit to Soap Dental. Super clean, easy to find, lots of parking, and extremely relaxed environment. There was never a moment I didnโt feel at ease as to what was going on and was checked in with multiple times to make sure I was comfortable. We spent some time talking about my goals and how we can get there, hallelujah! Iโm actually looking forward to going back next week to get some fillings & sealant applied ๐คฏ. This is such a great establishment, and if youโre like me and need an all-in-one dental facility I cannot recommend this one enough. Your mouth is in great hands. ๐ฉตPosted on Google![]()

Very lovely place. I got my teeth whitened here and from the moment I walked in for my appointment, I was greeted and taken care off. Front desk staff / assistant was super attentive. The office is lovely, once I walked into my room they greeted me with a large TV and my name on it and made me feel comfortable during my teeth whitening session. The doctor is very kind and makes sure you're comfortable during your visit. Frequent check ups during the appointment from the staff / doctor. Would recommend anyone to come here for all your teeth needs!!Posted on Google![]()

If your in need of a dentist, look no further. I have not been to a dentist since the dark ages and was fairly anxious. Dr Cheng was kind and patient and listened to my sad story with compassion and helpful suggestions regarding my treatment. Minus the guilt trip. He will work with you throughout the process and you might just feel a little better. Mouthwize anyway. Try not to watch Marathon Man before you go.Posted on Google![]()

Frequently Asked Questions
How far is SOAP Dental from Newton, and how do I get there?
Our office is roughly 9.5 miles from Newton Centre, around a 19-minute drive. Follow Route 9 west into Wellesley, then Route 16 through Wellesley Hills and Route 135 into Natick Center. It is a toll-free trip for anyone choosing a dentist Newton, MA drivers can reach on surface roads, though rush hour adds time.
Which Newton train stations share a line with Natick Center?
Auburndale, West Newton and Newtonville all sit on the MBTA Framingham/Worcester Line, which also stops at Natick Center. Ride west, step off at Natick Center, and the office is about a tenth of a mile from the platform. It is a practical option for patients who do not drive or would rather skip Route 9.
Can college students keep up with dental care here during the semester?
Yes, college students are welcome for checkups, cleanings and urgent visits during the school year. Booking a checkup early in the fall semester leaves room to schedule any follow-up work before winter break sends everyone home. Bring your insurance card, and the team will complete and submit the claim for you.
What can Newton patients do about stained or discolored teeth?
Several options can help, depending on the cause. Whitening treatments brighten surface stains, while bonding or porcelain veneers cover deeper discoloration that whitening cannot reach. Dr. Cheng looks at the teeth first, since a dark tooth can sometimes signal a problem inside. He then explains which approach fits your goals and budget.
Does Dr. Cheng treat jaw pain from clenching during a stressful workweek?
Yes, Dr. Cheng diagnoses and treats TMJ disorders, including jaw pain, headaches and discomfort when chewing. He looks at how your teeth meet, checks for wear from grinding and may recommend a custom nightguard. Cone Beam 3D imaging can also help him monitor the joint over time if symptoms continue.
