Convenient Access from Needham
Families driving over from Needham reach SOAP Dental in about 15 minutes by heading west on Route 135 to our office in Natick Center. For anyone weighing a dentist Needham, MA commuters and parents can fit into a packed week, this is a drive with no tolls and no highway merges. Dr. Bob Cheng sees children, teens and adults for checkups, cosmetic work, clear aligners and urgent problems at one address.
Start at the Needham Free Public Library, leave by Rosemary Street and follow Highland Avenue to Chapel Street. Chapel Street drops you onto Great Plain Avenue in the town center, and from there you simply head west. Route 135 keeps its number while the street names change, from Wellesley Avenue to Washington Street through Wellesley and then Central Street into Natick.
A short turn onto Main Street (Route 27) and then Middlesex Avenue ends the 7.2-mile trip at 7A Middlesex Ave, Natick, MA 01760, which you can pull up on Google Maps. Weekday rush hour can stretch the drive through the Wellesley stretch. Neighbors in Wellesley and Wellesley Hills share much of this same road west.
Why Needham Families Head West for Their Checkups
Needham is largely a commuter suburb, and many residents spend their mornings pointed east toward Boston on Route 128 or the commuter rail. Driving west to Natick runs against that flow, which makes an early appointment easier to keep. The office opens at 8:00AM Monday through Friday and closes at 5:00PM, with Saturday mornings from 8:00AM to 1:00PM by appointment only.
Parents often book siblings back to back so a single trip covers the whole household. Because Dr. Cheng treats every age group, a high school junior and a younger brother from Broadmeadow or Eliot can be seen in the same afternoon. Records, x-rays and treatment notes for the family stay in one chart, so nobody has to chase paperwork between offices.
The town sits in Norfolk County, wrapped on most sides by the Charles River. Weekend walkers know the boardwalk trails through Cutler Park Reservation, the largest remaining marsh of its kind on the middle Charles. A Saturday cleaning in Natick pairs easily with a morning outdoors, since the drive back east takes the same quarter hour.
Dental Care Notes for Needham Households
Needham Public Schools follows students from Mitchell, Newman and Sunita L. Williams elementary schools through High Rock, Pollard Middle School and the high school. Those years track a child's dental milestones, from the first permanent molars to the arrival of wisdom teeth. Sealants on fresh molars, routine cleanings and a bite evaluation around the middle-school years cover most of what growing kids need.
Olin College of Engineering also draws students to town from across the country, and many of them need a local dentist while they live away from home. A cleaning, an exam and x-rays early in the semester can catch a small cavity before finals week turns it into an emergency. Adults who ride the train from Hersey or one of the other local stops often postpone their own care, so a Saturday morning visit can be the practical answer.
Long workdays at a desk and tense commutes on Route 128 often show up as clenching or grinding at night. Worn edges, sore jaw muscles and morning headaches are common signs. A custom nightguard cushions the teeth while you sleep and protects the dental work you already have.
Parents juggling school pickups and work calls often put their own gum health last. Bleeding while brushing, gums that look puffy or a tooth that feels slightly loose all deserve a closer look. Caught early, gum disease usually responds to a deep cleaning and better home care at a fraction of the effort later treatment takes.
Our intraoral camera puts real-time photos of your teeth on a screen beside the chair. Kids and parents see exactly what Dr. Cheng sees, which turns a checkup into a short lesson instead of a mystery. That approach reflects his goal of making every visit fun, educational and comfortable.
Dentist Needham, MA Services at Our Natick Office
Pediatric Dentistry
Children from infancy through the teen years get cleanings, exams, sealants, fillings and crowns sized for growing mouths. Parents can bring a preschooler and a Pollard student to the same visit and head home together. Calm, simple explanations help young patients settle into the chair.
General Dentistry
Routine checkups, oral cancer screenings, nightguards and sports mouthguards form the core of our work. Twice-yearly visits keep adults ahead of decay and gum trouble. Small problems found early usually mean simpler, quicker fixes.
Invisalign
Removable clear aligners straighten teeth without brackets or wires, which suits teens and working adults alike. Trays come out for meals and brushing, so daily routines stay the same. Progress checks are short stops that fit around a school or office day.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Bonding, veneers and full smile makeovers address chips, gaps, worn edges and uneven shapes. Whitening is also available for stained teeth. Patients preparing for a wedding, a graduation or a job search often start here.
Emergency Treatment
Severe tooth pain, a tooth knocked loose during a high school game or a broken orthodontic wire all need quick attention. Our team reserves time for urgent visits whenever possible. Call as soon as the problem starts so we can plan your care.
When a checkup turns up something deeper, most restorative care also happens here, including tooth-colored fillings, crowns, root canal therapy and bridges. Keeping treatment under one roof means one set of records and one familiar team. It also saves you from booking separate offices across the western suburbs. If a tooth needs a crown after root canal therapy, Dr. Cheng explains why before any work begins.

LOOK NO FURTHER & book an appointment! I have neglected my teeth for too long but feel absolutely refreshed and hopeful after my visit to Soap Dental. Super clean, easy to find, lots of parking, and extremely relaxed environment. There was never a moment I didnโt feel at ease as to what was going on and was checked in with multiple times to make sure I was comfortable. We spent some time talking about my goals and how we can get there, hallelujah! Iโm actually looking forward to going back next week to get some fillings & sealant applied ๐คฏ. This is such a great establishment, and if youโre like me and need an all-in-one dental facility I cannot recommend this one enough. Your mouth is in great hands. ๐ฉตPosted on Google![]()

Very lovely place. I got my teeth whitened here and from the moment I walked in for my appointment, I was greeted and taken care off. Front desk staff / assistant was super attentive. The office is lovely, once I walked into my room they greeted me with a large TV and my name on it and made me feel comfortable during my teeth whitening session. The doctor is very kind and makes sure you're comfortable during your visit. Frequent check ups during the appointment from the staff / doctor. Would recommend anyone to come here for all your teeth needs!!Posted on Google![]()

If your in need of a dentist, look no further. I have not been to a dentist since the dark ages and was fairly anxious. Dr Cheng was kind and patient and listened to my sad story with compassion and helpful suggestions regarding my treatment. Minus the guilt trip. He will work with you throughout the process and you might just feel a little better. Mouthwize anyway. Try not to watch Marathon Man before you go.Posted on Google![]()

Frequently Asked Questions
How far is SOAP Dental from Needham, and how do I get there?
Our office is 7.2 miles from the Needham Free Public Library, usually a 15-minute drive. Take Great Plain Avenue west and stay on Route 135 through Wellesley into Natick, then use Main Street to reach Middlesex Avenue. Anyone who wants a dentist Needham, MA residents can reach without tolls will find the trip simple.
Does the Needham Line commuter rail stop in Natick?
No, the Needham Line runs from the town's four stations to Back Bay and South Station without stopping in Natick. Our office sits about a tenth of a mile from Natick Center station, but that stop belongs to the Framingham/Worcester Line. Most patients from town drive over on Route 135 instead of changing trains in Boston.
Should I bring X-rays from my previous dentist to my first visit?
Yes, recent X-rays and records are helpful if you have them. They show Dr. Cheng what has already been done and give him a baseline to compare against. Ask your previous office to send them before the visit, and bring your insurance card. If records are not available, digital X-rays can be taken at the first appointment.
Can Needham commuters book a Saturday appointment?
Yes, on a limited basis. Saturday hours run from 8:00AM to 1:00PM by appointment only, which helps parents who ride the train into Boston during the week. Weekday hours are 8:00AM to 5:00PM, Monday through Friday. Reserving a Saturday slot early gives you the widest choice of times.
What does a first checkup involve for a new patient from Needham?
A first visit starts with a welcome and a review of your dental history. Dr. Cheng then completes a comprehensive exam, which may include digital x-rays and a gum screening. If it is appropriate that day, a cleaning follows. You leave with a clear picture of your oral health and any next steps.
